New York Flute Fair 2020

This year's NY Flute Fair hosted by New York Flute club took place the 29th of February, a special day of a leap year.

I co-led a youth roundtable with fantastic educational leader Amy Appleton, who is a visual artist herself and also the director of Marquis Studio. The purpose of this even is to hear about the voices of the youths, what they hope to see more, what they are interested in, and what are their goals in general.

We started with M&M games to share a little bit about ourselves. Then we broke down youths and their parents to different groups, to hear about what they hole to see in the next year of flute clubs. not surprisingly, they all want to find the regular ensembles to participate in, and to find the same level players to play together; surprisingly, some kids say they want to know more about the "different sizes of flutes" and explore "the history of flutes". I'd say, we cannot underestimate the kids. They have the same interests as adults.
Parents also want some young professionals to be their kids' mentors.

We ended up with some improvisation games where I learned from Dan Trahey's workshop last year. It was a great experience to learn from the youths.
